Peterborough, Canada - Osborne Welcome
PXE…It is part of me
My name is Judy Osborne and I am 45 years of age. I live in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and I have PXE. I was diagnosed in 1983 at the age of 18 after a girl on my school bus commented that I had a dirty neck. A trip to the dermatologist confirmed the rare genetic condition.
There has been no evidence of PXE in any of my family members. I had been complication free until the fall of 2008 when a bleed was detected in my right eye. I had four monthly injections of Lucentis and one of Avastin, which cleared the problem and my vision was restored to 20/25 in the affected eye. This past fall, I had flare up in the right eye and received more injections. My ophthalmologist believes that I will need maintenance doses of Avastin, possibly every three to four months.
I live a very active and fulfilling life. I have a wonderful husband, a supportive family and two great teenaged children. I go out to work every day and enjoy a rewarding career as a nursing teacher. PXE has not slowed me down. I have a positive attitude and try to live a healthy lifestyle.
If you or someone you know has PXE and needs a friendly, supportive person to chat with, please don't hesitate to contact me at 705-742-9396 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
