Greater New York Office Welcome
My name is Judy Roller, and I represent the New York / New Jersey region. I am also a wife, a mother, a researcher, and fund raiser-in-training.
Right after PXE International was founded we sent a mailing to the area PXEers and held a regional meeting at my home. Several individuals had difficulty getting here and I arranged for them to be picked up by others who were coming. I am happy to report that one couple thus paired is now happily married to each other. Other lasting friendships developed this way as well.
My interest in PXE work stems from being diagnosed at age 14, and for 30 years after that finding no one who knew much about it. I went through two pregnancies with doctors for whom I had to spell "pseudoxanthoma elasticum", and who didn't know anything about it. Fortunately I have two wonderful children as a result, and until recently no serious PXE health issues. I developed recently a vision problem which has turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
I am 55 years old, a chemical engineer by training and a material scientist working in industrial R&D for the past 34 years. I will be “retiring" soon and I plan to focus my energy on volunteerism in general, and on the PXE community. It's great getting to know you, and may we go from strength to strength.
