Anna-Susan Marais
Nurse Sister for South Africans
Anna-Susan Marais joined PXE International in 1998 as the coordinator for South Africa.
Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a general nurse, midwife, psychiatric nurse, community health nurse and nurse educator, she supports the individuals in South Africa affected with PXE and their families.
Anna-Susan has enjoyed watching PXE International grow as an organization and as a family.
Anna-Susan received a B Cur in Nursing from the University of Pretoria in 1979, a Human Genetics Counsellor Certificate in 1982, and an Advanced Diploma in Nursing Education from the University of South Africa in 1985.
In addition to her work with PXE, she was the program manager for the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Prevention Study conducted by the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in collaboration with the University of New Mexico and the University of North Carolina. She retired from this position in 2023.
