Barb is a native of Southeastern Pennsylvania, where she currently lives with her husband, Mark. She has two adult daughters and four fantastic grandchildren. She graduated from West Chester University with a BA in Psychology and an M.Ed in School Counseling.
She has had a long and rewarding career in the Human Services field in both the private and public sectors. For over 25 years, she has worked in public education, serving as lead elementary counselor and coordinator and as Board Secretary and County representative with the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association.
First and foremost, she is the mother of a daughter with PXE, which is her primary connection to PXE International. Since her daughter was first diagnosed in 2001, she and her family have focused on seeking out the most accurate, research-based information about this challenging condition and supporting efforts to further research in the development of a treatment and potential cure. Finding knowledge, support and, most importantly, hope within this organization fulfilled a need to help her daughter and contribute through volunteering.
Since being on the board, Barb has had the opportunity to speak with many individuals who live with PXE and has been continually inspired by this community’s positivity and perseverance in the face of their daily challenges. Likewise, the integrity, dedication and generosity of the shoe-string PXE staff, its leadership, the board and critically important researchers is nothing short of inspirational. Their example challenges us all to do more in large and small ways to accomplish its mission...to secure a treatment and cure for PXE.
